Hot video – Juicy J “Won’t Miss Ya” #TrapTuesdays

Another life-changing visual from Juicy J based off the trap Bible Blue Dream & Lean. Lots of highlights in "Won't Miss Ya," with usual suspects of drugs, money, trippy effects, and LV logos, but who knew he was such a dancer? Watching him wild out like that warmed my ice box of a heart. In my long absence from blogging here for no particular reason, he also dropped "Countin Faces." Did you really expect him to not drop one video per week? See what I wrote about it for The Smoking Section (!!!!!!).

Hot video – Waka Flocka Flame ft. Trey Songz “I Don’t Really Care” #TrapTuesdays

Trey Songz sounds like an angel descended out of heaven when he sings over a trap beat. That's probably what Dante heard in the 9th sphere of heaven when Beatrice showed him the angels. Waka, on the other other, doesn't do much for me. Whenever I listen to him, all I hear is shouting. He kind of just sounds like background, static noise. Plus, these storylines that he's trying to incorporate into his videos as of late aren't doing much for me either. Pardon the obvious pun, but "I Don't Really Care."

Hot video – Phonte ft. Evidence & Big K.R.I.T. “The Life Of Kings”

Phonte's video for "The Life of Kings" is adorable. Initially, Phonte and Evidence with Big K.R.I.T. seemed like a curious combinination, what with Phonte and Ev being OG's in the game, and K.R.I.T. being the relative newcomer, it totally works. They're all kings. Even Phonte's mother. If I asked my mother to do that, she'd give me the side eye--yes, where else do you think I got that from?--and say nothing.

Hot video – Juicy J ft. 2 Chainz “Oh Well (Remix)” #TrapTuesdays

Unless I'm mistaken, Juicy J's video for the "Oh Well (Remix)" with 2 Chainz is the 15th video from Blue Dream & Lean, and the second for this track. So, like a video remix of a video? Does that work? Anyway, I'm not complaining! Why not make multiple videos for the same song? Actually...I can think of a fair amount of reasons not to do that, but hey, it's working for him. Now where's the video for "Stoner's Night Part 2?" That's my favorite song (along with three others, about) and it's the only one that doesn't have a video yet! And in case you missed it, the first version of the "Oh Well (Remix)" video. After watching it, I'm pretty sure most of the footage in both is from the same damn time. Lolz.

Hot video – JD Era “Smoking Good” #TrapTuesdays

A rapper rapping about weed, over a Lex Luger beat. That's obviously never happened before. I don't know much about JD Era, actually, nothing at all, but I do know that he shares my appreciation for Lex and that he is "Smoking Good," so it's all good despite the fact that this really isn't the most clever song about weed. Then again, I care for weed about as much as I care for country music, which is zero, since it can't be a negative number. "Good Smoking" sounds like it would rattle my Civic real good, so if I remember by the time I get home from work, I will download No Handouts, which you can download here.

Hot video – THEESatisfaction “QueenS”

I really enjoy "QueenS" by THEESatisfaction. I streamed their Sub Pop album debut awE naturalE when it was on NPR, and this was one of the standout tracks to me. "Don't funk with my groove" was stuck in my head for the rest of the day, and I wasn't mad about that. "QueenS" is the first video from the duo, and was directed by dream hampton. How dope is that?

Hot video – Kris Kasanova ft. Jarv Dee & V.I. “Picture Me Rollin”

Kris Kasanova - Picture Me Rollin feat. Jarv Dee & V.I (Directed by PHiLLY K) from Homeskool on Vimeo. "Picture Me Rollin" is off both Kris Kasanova's Warpaint as well as Jarv Dee's Dopamine, which drops tomorrow, and also features V.I. All the guys' verses are interesting, and the way their switch their flows up captivates me. When I listen to it, I don't just hear "rap rap rap rap rap" (not to be confused when people talk at me and all I hear is "blah blah blah"). It would also be remiss of me to not mention that Jarv Dee is one of my favorite artists in this fine city. Coincidentally, May 18th will be the album release show for Dopamine at Chop Suey. Kris Kasanova, Kung Foo Grip, Steezie Nasa, and special guest Nacho Picasso will be in the house for this show. And why do I see too many parallels between my life and that child's life? Shout out to everyone in Members Only.

Hot video – Dorrough Music ft. Ace Hood, Nipsey Hussle & Yo Gotti “That Lowend (Remix)” #TrapTuesdays

Dorrough, or Dorrough Music, whatever his name is, has always been one of my guiltier pleasures, and "That Lowend (Remix)" is no different. I love to listen to ignorant, semi misogynistic rap music while I work out, and this song is absolutely on my current playlist. I'm glad that Yo Gotti is on the remix, but I couldn't be more indifferent to Ace Hood or Nipsey Hussle if I tried. If Dorrough goes by Dorrough Music, does that mean I should go by Julie Blog? Nawwww.

Hot video – Juicy J “Errbody Wave” #TrapTuesdays

I literally don't know what I'm watching for half of "Errbody Wave." It's like, what were those things when I was young, like weird repeated designs that you stare at, and as you slowing move it away from your face, a hidden image pops out in 3D? That's what this is like, but it is Juicy J's face that pops up. And then there's Juicy J sitting in an electric chair. Errbody wave?

Hot video – Fat Trel “Swishers & Liquor” #TrapTuesdays

"Fuck them True Religions" interrupted my brief inner dialogue with myself. I think 2 Chainz is the reason that denim line is still relevant. 'Is this trap?,' I was wondering. Big K.R.I.T. produced Fat Trel's song "Swishers & Liquor," the visual (of many I hope) from Nightmare Off E Street. Fat Trel hails from DC, and I wouldn't exactly christen Krit as "trap" (no matter how much of a compliment that might be in my book), but I decided that overall, this is an instance of how the token sounds of trap production and content are infiltrating mainstream. Or, well, just hip hop in general, I suppose, since I wouldn't really call Trel "mainstream." Katy Perry is mainstream. Justin Bieber is mainstream. But I like Trel more than them.
