I’m very effusive in the artists who I love, but I really fucking love Drumma Boy. That time I met him at SXSW? That picture is still the background on my phone, and he’s still one of my favorite producers.

Every song on his 4th of July Playlist is produced by him, and features some of the usual suspects like Yo Gotti, 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa, Chris Breezy, Gucci Mane, and a shitload of others, considering it’s songs that he has produced. Be forewarned, however, that it isn’t only trapsters on this mix, which is indicative of Drumma Boy’s prowess as a producer. Anywho, I love playlists that other people make, especially if they’re as good as this one.

Another life-changing visual from Juicy J based off the trap Bible Blue Dream & Lean. Lots of highlights in “Won’t Miss Ya,” with usual suspects of drugs, money, trippy effects, and LV logos, but who knew he was such a dancer? Watching him wild out like that warmed my ice box of a heart.

In my long absence from blogging here for no particular reason, he also dropped “Countin Faces.” Did you really expect him to not drop one video per week? See what I wrote about it for The Smoking Section (!!!!!!).

Waka, on the other other, doesn’t do much for me. Whenever I listen to him, all I hear is shouting. He kind of just sounds like background, static noise. Plus, these storylines that he’s trying to incorporate into his videos as of late aren’t doing much for me either. Pardon the obvious pun, but “I Don’t Really Care.”

Pharrell is one of the most interesting people in the music industry because of all the work he’s done over the years, but also because he has managed to remain somewhat enigmatic. He should be in those Dos Equis commercials instead of that old guy, especially now that he’s releasing a book called Places & Spaces I’ve Been. Coffee table books are so under-appreciated.

This is a coffee table style book which will feature conversations between Pharrell and some friends who have inspired him such as Anna Wintour, Nigo, Buzz Aldrin, Takashi Murakami, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Hans Zimmer, Ambra Medda, Chad & Shae. The rest of the book will contain photos which cover most of Pharrell’s career. The book will be released October 16th and will retail for $55. Multiple colored cover options will be available as well as a limited edition version ($250) which will include something special which we won’t unveil until closer to the release date.

I wonder which color I’ll get. Fortunately, my multi colored rug which likely match all of them.

Phonte‘s video for “The Life of Kings” is adorable. Initially, Phonte and Evidence with Big K.R.I.T. seemed like a curious combinination, what with Phonte and Ev being OG’s in the game, and K.R.I.T. being the relative newcomer, it totally works. They’re all kings. Even Phonte’s mother. If I asked my mother to do that, she’d give me the side eye–yes, where else do you think I got that from?–and say nothing.

Part of Nicki’s success has been from her moving into mainstream, which I understand, and then 2 Chainz‘s really just being 2 Chainz. I was going to generalize and suggest that they both are able to adapt so easily over a variety of beats, but I can’t really say, with support, that 2 Chainz has done this…yet. Either way, it comes as no surprise that they sound great over the quicker tempo, dance hall type stuff. If only Nicki would indulge in beats like this, instead of that “Starships” mess.

Unless I’m mistaken, Juicy J‘s video for the “Oh Well (Remix)” with 2 Chainz is the 15th video from Blue Dream & Lean, and the second for this track. So, like a video remix of a video? Does that work? Anyway, I’m not complaining! Why not make multiple videos for the same song? Actually…I can think of a fair amount of reasons not to do that, but hey, it’s working for him.

Now where’s the video for “Stoner’s Night Part 2?” That’s my favorite song (along with three others, about) and it’s the only one that doesn’t have a video yet!

And in case you missed it, the first version of the “Oh Well (Remix)” video. After watching it, I’m pretty sure most of the footage in both is from the same damn time. Lolz.
