Thoughts on the #XXLFreshmen2012 cover that no one seems to care about anymore

And just like that, no one cares about this anymore. Yesterday, it occupied my twitter timeline more aggressively than any of the Occupy Wall Street protestors, and today, I see no whisper of it on my Twitter timeline. I'm writing about it mostly because I wrote nearly this whole post yesterday. Anywho, the yearly Freshmen issue, where XXL Magazine editors or whoever chooses a certain number of so-called Freshmen, is what keeps the magazine relevant, despite the fact that it really isn't that relevant (just examine the inductees each year). I don't really have too much to say about this cover, mostly because I work now, compared to the time when last year's cover dropped, so I don't have time to wake up at 11 every day and stay up until 2 AM making a whiny blog post about who should or shouldn't have been included. I only know who Machine Gun Kelly is because of that Lex Luger-produced song "Wild Boy" that makes me want to go start riots and burn stuff. But, let's be honest, the Fat Trel version is way better (why isn't Fat Trel on this list?). Danny Brown is a thirty year old Freshman. He's actually super dope, and I'm glad he's getting recognized, but it just goes to show how XXL Magazine truly has no guidelines or limitations on who can or can't be considered a "Freshman." That was my issue with last year's list, and that'll probably be my issue next year. Whenever I list to Future, I feel like I'm listening to a language immersion program CD. To what language, I don't know. Roscoe Dash is my favorite robotic hook man, having some of the more memorable hooks throughout the last year. I don't think I could handle ...

Trey Songz is not okay with you making a DV joke about Chris Brown in front of him

To give the lady's question some context, TMZ ran a post about Chris Brown using the pickup line "Can I get your number? I promise I won't beat you," which he adamantly denied for obvious reasons. Anyway, it's not that Trey Songz is angry that she's joking about beating a woman, but it's that he's angry about her clowning on Chris Brown. Trey looks so sexy when he's mad. But, that poor interviewer. And just like that, the gay rumors persist. I still luhhhh you Trey!!!

Hot video – Tyga ft. a bunch of rappers “Rack City (Remix)” #TrapTuesdays

Tyga enlists a bunch of rapper friends curiously not signed to YMCMB with him, such as Meek Mills, Wale, Fabolous, T.I., and Young Jeezy, for the remix of one of the most ignorant songs ever, "Rack City." I posted the song a while back, and I still have noooooo idea why Fabolous continues to rap, but more pointedly, why he attempts and succeeds at sounding nearly identical to Tyga. It's utterly baffling to me. Unrelated, but I like Wale's kicks. Trap City bitch, Trap Trap City.

Hot song – Gangsta Boo ft. Drumma Boy “Heels & Jeans” #TrapTuesdays

Ever since Gangsta Boo was arrested for allegedly robbing a dollar store when I first started blogging, there's been a place in my tiny heart for her. Plus, unless I'm mistaken, she's the only female rapper doing trap shit, and when you add Drumma Boy and a Lex Luger beat into the mix, I'm sold. Gangsta Boo--a name I will never get over, truthfully--and Drumma Boy have some pretty flagrant verses, but I find the hook to be quite wack. I think the verses and production outweigh the hook, though. Download "Heels & Jeans" via DGB

Download – DJ Sean Mac Luxury Trap Music II #TrapTuesdays

DJ Sean Mac's first installment of Luxury Trap Music contributed to a critical turning point in my young life last year, i.e. that's when I realized I liked trap music. It's a little early to tell, but I think I might like the first installment better. It's mostly just due to the collection of songs, even though II includes the usual trap superstars found on the first one. Real talk, I'll probably love it more than the first when it's all said and done. After all, it's still mixed fine with lots of "Luxury Trap Music" drops throughout. Download Luxury Trap Music II, and the tracklist is below. Somehow, Gucci Mane's "North Pole" does not get old. That song is so funny to me.

#Latepass for #TrapTuesdays: French Montana doesn’t “know how to use an email”

Among the things I like to write about on my blog, that I'm slacking on--well, to be fair I'm slacking on every facet--is documenting current events in hiphop. Somehow, I missed this story at the time it came out around a month ago, likely because I couldn't care less about French Montana. But, it's just too funny for me to now write about. Evidently, Diddy paid a bunch of money to XXL Magazine to have Frenchie featured on the Freshmen 2012 magazine cover so now by default he's going to be semi relevant (he's the one wearing the bear head, and I'll blog about that shit tomorrow). Money can really buy you anything. Even a bear head cloak. Where's PETA when you really need those assholes?? Anyway, French Montana did a collab mixtape with Juicy J and Project Pat a while back, Cocaine Mafia, that makes him somewhat relevant to my #TrapTuesdays. Shockingly, it was kind of boring, and I felt like every song sounded like the next, which is surprising given how much Julie J loves Juicy J. I met up with him one time and then I met up with him again. There were things that I was used to ’cause I was already moving. I’m like a money train. Kanye doesn’t have a phone. If you need to get in contact with Kanye, you have to email him. You can’t tell me how to do that. I don’t know how to use an email, so I guess me and you is never gonna talk. And I’ma put my career in your hands? He’s definitely talented and I felt like if I went there, we would have ...

Hot song – Drumma Boy ft. Waka Flocka Flame, Gangsta Boo, & Slim Thug “I’m On Worldstar (Remix)” #TrapTuesdays

This is like the hundreth remix I've posted of "I'm On Worldstar"--okay, just the second remix besides the original song--but it never gets old. This time around, Drumma Boy brings along Waka Flocka Flame, Gangsta Boo, and Slim Thug for the reeeeeeemix found on DJ Smallz' Southern Smoke Radio 9 (download here). If they do another version of this song, who would I like to see on here? I don't even know. Juicy J? SL Jones? Spoiler alert: anyone can be on Worldstar, but I think I've mentioned this before.

Hot video – Waka Flocka Flame ft. Drake “Round of Applause” #TrapTuesdays

The "Round of Applause" song, despite being produced by Lex Luger, always makes me yawn. I guess I'm not the hugest Waka Flocka Flame fan. I've just always thought it was boring for some reason, but fortunately, Drake's dancing in the background of this Mr. Boomtown-directed video saves the day by making me laugh. Oh, Wheelchair Jimmy, I appreciate you for all the wrong reasons.

Hot song – Bei Maejor “Special”

"Special" is the last release from Bei Maejor's Upscale EP before it drops on the 29th of March. OMFG I love this song! I started my day by listening to Blue Dream & Lean, and since 10 AM, this is the only song I've listened to. I have this feeling that Bei Maejor is going to slowly change the game. Time will tell... Nicki Minaj on being labeled a “sellout” for her pop music

This happened at the All Star Game... Drake is probably thinking of some depressing lyrics for his follow up to Take Care as Nicki is smooching on Lil Wayne, who happens to be wearing some bedazzled Beats By Dre headphones that cost A Milli. So many things wrong here... Prior to that, Nicki Minaj called into Funkmaster Flex's radio show last week, and among things they discussed was her "selling out." To be honest, it never occurred to me that she was selling out. It's more that she's making crappy music, and I guess increasing her reach of crappy music from hiphop to pop. Crappy music is crappy music. It transcends genre classification. I would hope that people know at this point that I'm smart enough to know what I'm doing all the time. But I guess they still kind of waiver. I always intended on putting out something urban after 'Starships,' because I knew 'Starships' was a monster. I didn't feel the pressure. To be honest, I feel really, really good. I feel that Hip Hop cares enough that they have something to say. I remember when I was hoping that someone had something to say about me on the radio, or cared enough. Maybe it would be a problem if I couldn't deliver records like 'Roman Reloaded,' but I can. I write my own lyrics. Once again, I write my own lyrics. So it's never a problem. Whatever I feel, I can write, I can create it. So I'm good. I think people sometimes get blown away by the magnitude of the pop stuff, because the pop stuff, it reaches everywhere and then I feel like my Hip Hop fans or Hip ...
