Hot video – Blue Sky Black Death & Nacho Picasso “Staring At The Sun”

Appropriately so, a set of sun-drenched visuals accompany Nacho Picasso and Blue Sky Black Death's video for "Staring At The Sun" off Lord of the Fly. I think I read somewhere that it was shot in Austin during the week of SXSW, since it's never sunny in Seattle. But I might be making that up (which part, you decide). Anyway, I like how the general mood of this video is kind of serious, and then there's Nacho Picasso, wearing a shirt emblazoned with Bart Simpson saying "Eat my shorts, man!" I like that there's one little thing, like that funny shirt, or that vintage phone in the "Rammin" video, that catches my attention in the videos. I guess I shouldn't overly generalize, because I don't really recall specific details from the other 6 or 7 of the videos off the top of my head, but that's also what keeps me perpetually entertained by both Lord of the Fly and For The Glory. If I'm not feeling like I'm hearing a random punchline for the first time--this happens more often than you'd thin--then I'm still entertained by what Nacho is rapping about. Hot song – SpaceGhostPurrp “No Evidence”

SpaceGhostPurrp is trill. I watched him perform without really knowing it was him (I mistakenly thought a showcase was running on time after one performance, okay, so sue me). I'm a little late getting into the whole A$AP Mob fad, and by extension, SpaceGhostPurrp, who I believe has produced for them. I keep bringing up SXSW, but if I hadn't seen these guys and their crews (I mean "mobs") perform and walk the streets, I probably wouldn't be listening to them now. So, Purrp is part of the Raider Klan, which is stylized as RVIDXR KLVN. That shit is so confusing for me to read. I seriously can't decipher most of those and just give up. "No Evidence" is his first single from Chronicles of SpaceGhostPurrp (or CHRXNICLXS OF SPVCXGHXZTPVRRP on his label's site). His commercial debut is looking at a June 12th release date on indie label 4AD. Via 2dopeboyz.com

Hot video – The-Dream ft. Casha “Kill The Lights”

As talented as Casha might be...I just don't care, not when I'm trying to listen to The-Dream. Her song on 1977 gets an automatic fast forward, through no fault of her own, and, also through no fault of her own, her name closely resembles that of Kesha (barf). I have to admit that she does sound good on here. Anyway, the video for "Kill The Lights" is pretty aesthetically pleasing. All the lights and fire effects are beautiful. It's probably my favorite Dream video in a long minute, besides the ones for "Rockin That Thang" and the remix. His next album Love IV MMXII is supposed to drop sometime this summer, and features the likes of Gucci Mane (!!!!), Mary J. Blige, and R. Kelly.

Hot song – A-Trak ft. Juicy J & Danny Brown “Piss Test”

This song goessssss! This guy A-Trak does it again. Roughly this time last year, he had remixed "Ray Ban Vision," which turned out to be my top song of 2011, and "Piss Test" is surely a contender for 2012. I like how the song slaps, but it has traces of dubstep. I also like the unexpected, but dope, combination of Juicy J and Danny Brown. Clap for A-Trak.

If this is what it means to be a Taylor, then I’m in!

I'm still not gonna wear Chuck Taylors, though. Wiz Khalifa recently bought a nice eco-friendly house in the middle of the woods in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. The modern home is 3,891 square feet with a guesthouse on 2.8 acres, and he paid $900k for it. Can you imagine Amber Rose living all quaint in the woods like this...? Yeah, I can't, either. How on Earth would you be able to call the paparazzi to stage photo ops in a place like this? Although the property isn't quite what was described in "Errday"--"My mansion sittin' on 40 acres, who the neighbors?/Kobe Bryant from the Lakers, now that's paper"--it's still pretty nice. It's more likely that he has some Steelers neighbors than Kobe. Definitely not your quintessential, stereotypical rapper house. It even comes with some kiddy rooms, but I'm too lazy to include those. All that matters, and I write this sarcastically, is that there is no ATM like there is in Drizzy's house. Spotted at Rap-Up

Corrections Officer Rick Ross wins name lawsuit over the original Rick Ross

With that title, I tried to make everything as clear as possible. In case you didn't know, the rapper Rick Ross (pictured above) adopted his name from "Freeway" Rick Ross, the drug dealer, probably since he used to be a Corrections Officer and hoped that he could gain some street cred. Today was the second time that the real Rick Ross lost his court case against the rapper for infringing upon his name. AllHipHop.com explains the first case, writing that "the earlier ruling stated that Freeway Ricky Ross could not legally trademark his name, because he became popular due to 'illegal activity,' which the judge said could not be used to establish a 'secondary meaning.'" In other words, because Freeway Rick Ross did something illegal, he has no rights to his government name? Am I interpreting this correctly? I, personally, would be pissed if someone was going by my name, and benefitting off my notoriety. That's kind of wack, but I guess that's our legal system, flaws and all. Regardless, identify theft is a real problems, kids, and most homeowners insurance policies will offer that protection (in case you're wondering). I also didn't realize this, but while Freeway Rick Ross was locked up, rapper Rick Ross went to visit him, to ask about using his name. In laymens terms, his answer was "hell-to-the-no," but he obviously went ahead and used it anyway. Using other people's experiences as a yard stick for learning will help you tremendously. — Freeway Rick Ross (@FreewayRicky) March 29, 2012 TMZ via AllHipHop.com

Hot video – E-40 ft. 2 Chainz & Juicy J “They Point”

At first, I was going to make this long list of things that I don't need--like Girl Scout cookies (even though they practically taste as good as being skinny feels)--and liken it to Bangladesh's rapping on the hook, but two things happened. I realized I wasn't as perturbed by his hook as I was initially, and I couldn't think of any other examples for that list. I don't listen to that much E-40, but I really liked his verse here. Whenever I think of him, I think of sophomore year of college with all the O'Dea boys going dumb at house parties to him, like it was something groundbreaking and new. Although, to be fair, to UP, it was, I suppose. By now, I'm sure you know that I unconditionally love Juicy J, and am pretty much unconditionally indifferent to 2 Chainz, so that's that. "They Point" is on Block Brochure, which is only 60 songs long. Seriously. You can buy it from iTunes here. Also, did anyone else notice that girl front and center with her ass completely exposed, in multiple shots? Honey...

James Franco as Riff Raff

Riff Raff is a real human being. I only know this because I walked by him at SXSW. He, of G's and Gents Fame, is being portrayed by James Franco in the Selena Gomez movie Spring Breakers. I feel like there is a lot of wrong in that preceding sentence. James Franco in a Selena Gomez movie, for example. TMZ says that Riff Raff turned down the role of himself because he's too busy. See, that guy raps. He's also signed to Soulja Boy's record label Stacks on Deck Money Gang (or SOGMG). I'm not sure why anyone would want to sign to someone's label whose bankrupt, but hey, it all makes sense, doesn't it? Spotted at TMZ

Hot video – Avatar Young Blaze ft. AK “I’m Bout That”

Last Saturday, I was perusing some of my favorite blogs including 206up.com, where I saw Avatar Young Blaze's video for "I'm Bout That." I liked the video, as well as the song, because the cinematography is kind of ill with the lighting, particularly when they're in a crowd. Anyway, I full well intended to blog about it that day, like right after I watched it, but I was exhausted after writing two paragraphs about Fat Trel's "Paper Bag Magic" so I kept it open in a tab and napped. Fast forward to later that night when I finally got my ass out of bed, I was at HG Lodge since it's closing at the end of the month and I only recently discovered that I loved it there. I guess I will just have to go back to being a recluse, which might mean, by extension, blogging...? Naw, I won't trap myself in that corner. Anyway, I was talking to one of my favorite rappers who I blog about pretty frequently on here, when I was like, "...wait a second, is that...?" And then I was introduced to Avatar Young Blaze. I obviously neglected to mention that I had his new music video sitting in an open tab on my laptop because I felt like a fucking weirdo, but yeah, I did mention how I had just downloaded The Humble Villain that day (which you, too, can do right here). Cool story bro. Spotted at 206UP.com

Review – Miguel Art Dealer Chic Vol. 2

Dude...Miguel is kind of the shit. Last month's Art Dealer Chic Vol. 1 had me listening to "Adorn" on repeat, many times, and this month's second installment is just filthy all around. I haven't listened to a lot of Miguel, but from a completely ignorant and uninformed standpoint, I feel like this collection is a little more upbeat than his previous work. I didn't really connect with any of his singles that I saw splashed across MTV Jams, as impressive as the visuals were. The juxtaposition of his vocals on these tracks, with the upbeat, electronic influences, is dope, and I'm excited to hear what's next. So I was enjoying myself, listening to "Arch N Point," and "All," when I hear him talking on "Broads" about leaving it verse-less so artists can go in on it. I'm not even mad! I've thought long and hard about who I would want to hear on it, and of course, the first person who comes to mind is Juicy J. However, I was also thinking about how "All" was a little reminiscent of a couple Dream songs mashed together, so I wouldn't be mad at his inclusion on here as well. I also feel like J. Cole could body this song as well. Clearly, though, the point of not including "Broads" with a feature is to demonstrate how he can own it himself. Well done, Miguel. I wish I had seen you at SXSW.
