FIYAHHHH (fire) is the reason there’s No Ceilings

I guess I’m the only person who notices the irony of Weezy’s new mixtape No Ceilings, considering come February, he’ll have some very real prison ceilings over his head.

Nonetheless, Weezy kills it, or goes hard, or whatever you want to say in order to emphasize the greatness of No Ceilings. He gave an interview saying that his goal isn’t to kill artists on their own beats (it’s easier because he doesn’t have to deal with paying producers), but that is what he does. If I was an artist, though, I would be HONORED if he freestyled over my beat. Lyrically, he is so on point that I even dare to throw the word “flawless” out there. What’s even crazier, after a discussion with one of my few readers (literally, I have like 3 readers…shout out to Walter!) that in terms of quality, No Ceilings sounds like a studio album. No, my love and appreciation for him are not clouding my judgment!

Days ago, I set out to give a brief summary of each track, maybe my favorite lyric of the song. It didn’t really work because all of his lyrics are so damn clever. I could just list the entire track list for my favorites. For example, in “Ice Cream” he says “I’m all over this Ice Cream beat like sprinkles.” Another standout is “D.O.A.,” with him spitting back Jay’s lyrics “just cleared that up, moment of clarity,” but losing Jay’s arrogance. “Sweet Dreams” is another interesting choice, but SPOILER ALERT: he and Nicki Minaj kill it yet again. Really, I can just substitute any track title in there with the ending “and he kills it,” because that’s how I feel.
