Drake was not kicked out of Young Money after fight with Lil Wayne and Birdman
The new rumor on the streets (apparently being reported by Hip Hop Nation) is that Drake has been kicked out of Young Money after a fight over unpaid royalties.
Here is what HipHopWired and their “sources” reported last night:
Drake was kicked out of Young Money after a heated argument with Lil Wayne and Baby. According to sources, tensions have been fueling for the past 2 months over unpaid royalties and Drake wanting to restructure his contract with Cash Money/Young Money. Drake who was not on the bill but was apparently there to make a special appearance but refused to take the stage and all hell broke loose. According to sources, during the argument, Drake screamed he was Young Money and if it wasn’t for him, the label would have died while Wayne was locked down. Weezy apparently became irate after the statement and replied, “This the thanks I get… We don’t fuc*ing need you.”
In February, MediaTakeOut was speculating that Drizzy wanted out of his contract with Young Money so that he could move to Roc Nation.
You know, this doesn’t even surprise me, and it’s completely believable because Birdman has a proven track record of not paying anyone their due royalties.
However, I don’t know that Drake is the only reason Young Money survived while Weezy was locked away. I heard that there was this other artist who ended up going platinum on her debut album, too, I think her name is like Nicki Minaj or something? Not to mention, YMCMB released that Rebirth album that went gold, and were constantly releasing music videos, so they had a good strategy to keep Weezy relevant and talked about, even if it was weird rap/rock music with music videos shot in front of green screens.
Can you just imagine Drake screaming “I am Young Money” and him being all mad? I can, and I’m laughing.
UPDATE: According to Sandra Rose (where I originally read this), the rumor isn’t true. Drizzy’s response was “You see today, when I landed in D.C. and I got off the plane, this n*gga looked me in my eyes and he asked me, ‘Did you drop out of Young Money?’ And I looked him right back in his eyes and I said, ‘Boy, are you out your motherf*ckin’ mind?!’ Man, I want this sh*t ‘Forever!” (via HipHopWired). Haha…seriously though. He quoted himself.
