T.I. and MTV are getting sued two years after the fact

This hasn’t been a very good week for MTV. First they were faxed a cease and desist from a washed up mafia guy, and now they’re being sued for T.I.’s old reality show. I’m guess it also wasn’t the best week for T.I., either, since he’s still in prison. In fact, I forgot that T.I. had a reality show on MTV called “The Road to Redemption” because I never watched it. Clearly, the “road to redemption” is a little longer than both T.I. and MTV expected.

Anyway, they are being sued by the relatives of a dead man who claim they suffered mental distress after seeing his corpse on TV back in 2009. I guess it took them two years to overcome their mental distress enough to file the lawsuit. Basically, they are saying that T.I., MTV, the funeral home, and whoever else involved in the producgion of the video took advantage of the situation in order to make financial gains. So, the family is taking advantage of the situation suing for unspecified damages for mental pain, suffering, and emotional distress.
“The Road to Redemption” was a reality show with the premise to scare the youth into leading crime-free lives, although at this point, it seems more like a satire if T.I. himself can’t even abide by the laws. With way too much irony, the first episode was titled ”You Are Responsible For Your Own Actions,” and it is the episode in question where they show the dead man’s body on TV. A mortician tells the kid that the man was a “hustler” and that the man’s parents don’t know how he really died.
