It seems like Jayhova garners a fair amount of hate these days, but I guess that’s what happens if you’re at the top, no?I suppose I shouldn’t entirely excluded myself from the hating harem because I do like to write about the current events, and if they happen to include him, then so be it. Although, I don’t really feel like it is hating, per se, if I am constructively criticizing him on factual points. These days, though, people assume that “hating” means voicing an informed opinion, and that isn’t correct.

Regardless, the latest person to criticize Jay-Z is political activist Fred Hampton, Jr., whose late father Fred Hampton is name dropped in “Murder to Excellence” by Hov. Fred Hampton is the fallen leader of the Black Panther Party who was assassinated by the FBI.

I arrived on the day Fred Hampton died

Real niggas just multiply

Hov’s birthday is the same day that Fred Hampton died, and that is supposed to explain the second part of “real niggas just multiply.” Math isn’t my strong suit, obviously, but that isn’t multiplication, but conversely, that isn’t what Fred Hampton, Jr. is upset about.

Fred Hampton didn’t die. He was assassinated. Saying Fred Hampton died is like the school teacher telling students that Christopher Columbus discovered America.

Hampton, Jr. questioned Hov’s motives on the record and accused him of twisting the facts, and went on to refer to him as Slave-Z.

You know, my dear reader, I don’t really think Hov set out to twist facts or obliterate history, or whatever. While I can understand why Fred Hampton, Jr. is upset, I’m not terribly sympathetic about it. I was going to try and sugarcoat it, but whatever. I understand where he’s coming from, but I don’t care. He’s mad over Hov’s word choice, and ‘multiply’ doesn’t rhyme with ‘assassination.’

And do I think that this episode will result in people educating themselves about Fred Hampton? Hell to the no. People are way too lazy and content being ignorant. I don’t like being ignorant, but I do like being lazy…
