Racks on racks on racks…AKA Mess on mess on mess

I saw someone tweet that if you can understand more than 30% of what YC is saying in "Racks on Racks," then you should be in NASA. I can agree with that sentiment. After watching this, I kind of think that YC doesn't even know what he's saying. You see, this is where Beyonce comes in. She explains stuff like "A diva is a female version of a hustler." If anyone could help a blogger out, I bet the almighty Beysus could translate this. CyHi Da Prynce and B.o.B both look like they went on a shopping spree gone wrong at Forever XXI, but I'm not judging. I might just be a little upset because CyHi's shirt looks like something I would want to wear. I guess the other 10 rappers weren't available to stand in front of a green screen to shoot this video. Waka could have at least sent over an animated Fozzie Bear to sing in autotune.

Hot mess – Keri Hilson ft. Nelly “Lose Control”

Keri Hilson is a disappointment to me, and "Lose Control" furthers my disappointment. This video sucks. This song sucks. Her album sucked. I think "Lose Control" was one of the better cuts on No Boys Allowed, so that should give you an idea of the caliber of that album. I also think Nelly is washed up, and I don't care how many digital downloads he sold of that wack song on iTunes. Obviously, sex sells, but what type of message is Keri sending to her female fans? I've been blessed with an ungodly level of high self-esteem, so I'm not about to go slut it up on some corner and rope my homegirls (pun intended!) in to drag some dude with a rope somewhere. With explosions in the background, of course. Make no mistake, though, I do not hate on pretty people who take advantage of the fact that they're beautiful! In fact, I encourage it! If people are dumb enough to be taken advantage of, then why not.  I also have no problem whatsoever with people taking advantage of people and using their looks to get ahead in life. But as a fellow female, I have to wonder how far that tactic will go? Case in point with Keri, she won't be beautiful forever, so I hope that she can go back to dope music and not selling herself out. Or whatever. Beyonce's new song is pretty lame, but her video was wicked. And to be honest, the song will probably grow on me. Rihanna's songs are always decent enough to my ears, and I never categorize her music videos as a "hot mess." So, Keri? Where doesn't that leave you? This makes me want to listen to In A Perfect World and wish that I ...

Nelly blames record label for poor first-week sales

Last week, Nelly's sixth studio album 5.0 sold 64,000 copies in its first week, and he was not very happy about that. So, in this day and age, he did what any other artist would do, and turned to twitter, which I don't think is a very appropriate or professional way for any artist to deal with their issues, Nelly included.  It's just not a good look for them. Karen Civil compiled his letter in its entirety, so you can judge for yourself. Warning: it is not very grammatically correct. Maybe he's using that "country grammar?"Anyway, Nelly certainly makes some valid points, but it still doesn't convince me in this day and age.  His single "Just a Dream" sold two million units over two and a half months, and Nelly believes that such high single sales should translate into high album sales.  He album dropped somewhere in between the new Kanye, Cudi, Nicki, and Rihanna (among many others), so personally, it doesn't seem like Universal Motown chose the best quarter to stage a comeback for Nelly.  Accordingly, it is not so farfetched that his single would outsell the album so much.  I find it perfectly reasonable that people would want to cop, say, all those albums I listed, and just his single, but then again, I'm not much help because no, I wasn't looking for Nelly, and I certainly didn't care much for "Just a Dream" (that last line would make more sense if you decided to torture yourself by reading his grammatically incorrect letter).Nelly also scolded his record label for only shipping out 200,000 physical copies, ultimately asking how they expected to sell copies if they were only ...

Tom Felton chatting it up with Nelly

Tom Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies, just tweeted the above picture of him talking with Nelly, which if I'm not mistaken is when they were both guests on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Yeah, in case you didn't recognize this, I'm definitely a bigger Tom Felton fan than I am of Nelly, even though "Country Grammar" was my jam back in the day (sorry, Nelly). On another note, I have been meaning to blog or tweet about this, but I guess I'm too lazy.  So here I go.  I don't know what surprises me more: the fact that Nelly makes music still, or the fact that his song gets almost constant airtime on the radio. No one I know likes that song, and I find it hard to believe that it is the most requested song.  And that's why I don't like FM radio.
