A huge picture of Trey Songz on Tha Blog? Sure, why not. So beautiful...
First point of the article: Trey Songz has a signature catchphrase and it is "yup," and I'm not kidding. Or you can spell it "yuup," or even "yuuup." Or, if you're feeling wild, "YUUUP." Yeah, I didn't know, either. I've heard him sing-rap it before, but I thought it was about as proprietary as other R&B singers saying "baby."
Now that it's been established that Trey Songz does have a catchphrase, he's suing over it. Has it been trademarked or copyrighted? Can't answer that, but I'm going to bet that the answer is the opposite of "yuuup." I mean, who would trademark that? Can I trademark the word "yeah?" No? Yeah?
Trigga's lawyer sent a cease and desist letter to Dave Hester of “Storage Wars" because his catchphrase is allegedly being stolen during the auctions by Hester, who in turn filed a lawsuit against Trey, citing a distinct difference in their versions and uses of "yup." Hester alleges that Trey's word is “animal-like or non-human squeal which begins with a distinct ‘yeeee’ sound before finishing with a squeal-like ‘uuuup’ sound,” whereas he just uses it as another way to yes during auctions.
I haven't watched Storage Wars, so I can't comment. It's weird how if there's like a new concept for a show, in this case storage unit auctions, those shows pop up on three channels. Storage Wars is on A&E, and I think I occasionally watch the TLC version. I want to say that there's another on, too, but who knows. I can't keep track.
I can't believe people are suing over the non-word "yup." ...
